Why Implementation?

Implementation means putting tobacco control laws into practice and ensuring they achieve their intended outcomes. Why is implementation important? Because strong policies do not automatically equate to strong compliance. And without strong compliance, people are not protected from the harms of tobacco.

The adoption of a law is a vital step but it is necessary to ensure that it is implemented and enforced in order to build high compliance and ultimately achieve the law’s impact.

A focus on implementation from the point of adoption throughout the lifetime of the law can greatly strengthen and sustain compliance.
